Massive, undetectable security flaw found in USB: It's time to get your PS/2 keyboard out of the cupboard.

http://www.appy-geek.com/

Security researchers have found a fundamental flaw that could affect billions of USB devices.
This flaw is so serious that, now that it has been revealed, you probably shouldn't plug a USB device into your computer ever again. There are no known effective defenses against this
variety of USB attack, though in the future (months or years, not days) some limited defenses might be possible. This vulnerability, which allows any USB device to take over your computer, mostly exists due to the USB Implementers Forum (the USB standards body) eschewing security in favor of maximizing the versatility, and thus the massively successful adoption, of USB. The
USB IF itself notes that your only defense against this new attack vector is to only use USB devices that you 100% trust — but even then, as we'll outline below, this won't always protect
you.
This flaw, dubbed BadUSB by Security Research Labs in Berlin, leverages the fact that every USB device has a controller chip. Whether it's your PC, smartphone, external hard drive, or an
audio breakout box, there's a USB controller chip in every device that controls the USB connection to other devices. It turns out, according to SR Labs, that these controllers have
firmware that can be reprogrammed to do a whole host of malicious things — and, perhaps most importantly, this reprogramming is almost impossible to detect.
The USB controller chip is the big chip in the middle (they don't usually have a skull silkscreened onto them though).
This vulnerability mostly stems from the fact that USB, by design, is incredibly versatile. USB can be used to connect just about any kind of peripheral to a host machine — an ability that is
only possible because of USB classes and class drivers. Basically, every USB device under the sun has a class — a classification that defines the device's function. Some common classes are
human-interface devices (HIDs; keyboards, mice), wireless controller (Bluetooth dongles), and mass storage (thumb drives, digital cameras). On the host (your PC, your smartphone) there are class drivers that manage the functions of that particular class of devices. This is why you can plug a USB keyboard into just about any device and it'll work flawlessly.
USB hacking isn't a new thing — but this is the first time that an attack vector hasn't required extra chips and circuit boards, making a whole lot more dangerous.
The problem, according to SR Labs, is that these USB controllers can have their firmware reprogrammed so that they announce themselves as a different class. For example, you could
reprogram a mass storage device so that it masquerades as a network controller, so that all of your network communications (websites, passwords) get redirected to the device. Or, even worse, you could reprogram the firmware of a thumb drive so that it becomes a HID, and can thus issue keyboard and mouse commands to the host machine. These commands might be used to
install malware, or to rewrite the firmware of other attached USB devices. Suddenly you are sitting on a computer worm of Conficker proportions that could take down most of the world's
devices.
While finding a security hole in USB isn't exactly a surprise, the main issue here is that there's no immediate fix. As of today, there could be billions of USB devices out there with firmware that could be reprogrammed by a computer virus — and, according to SR Labs, it's impossible to spot the modified firmware unless you know exactly where to look. (It took months for SR Labs to reverse engineer the controller firmware, and it doesn't sound like they're giving up
their secrets any time soon.) The security researchers also say that malware scanners can't access the firmware of a USB device — so you can forget about that angle, too. SR Labs says it will release more details and proof-of-concept tools at Black Hat 2014 on August 7.

PS/2 mouse and keyboard sockets: Still safe

It would be possible to mitigate against this attack in the future if every device maker signed their firmware, and then your computer checked that signature every time you plugged the
device in — but I suspect, given the scale of the USB device ecosystem, such a change would take months or years to adopt. Another option would be designated USB ports on your
computer — so, you might have a port that only accepts mass storage devices, and is completely incapable of handling other classes of USB device. [Read: How to watch hacking, and cyberwarfare between the USA and China, in real time .]
Ultimately, though, the only real mitigation is ensuring you only use USB devices that you trust.
It's basically like unprotected sex: If you plug your USB memory stick into another computer, you should then assume that your memory stick is forever compromised. The problem with this approach, though, is that your own computer could infect your USB devices without you knowing — and unless you're a very careful surfer , it's very hard to keep your computer completely
malware-free. Which brings us back to the beginning of the story: Maybe it's just best if you don't use USB for a while.
Fortunately my cupboard is full of PS/2 keyboards, parallel printers, and stacks of rewritable
DVDs for exactly this kind of apocalyptic occasion…

How To Recover hidden files from your external harddrive

After inserting your external USB hard drive or flash into a virus infested system, you cannot access them on any other system again. The files you you have in them are now either shortcuts or executables. You think its a virus problem, then you decide to scan with an antivirus only to discover that all your files are gone. This is a sure way of recovering your hidden or lost files;

To recover hidden files, you’ll need to use the command prompt in windows OS: 1. Plug your USB External HDD to your system
2. Go to Start -> Run-> Type CMD and press enter.
3. Find the drive name for the connected USB drive. ( Like A:/ E:/ D:/)
For Example if your drive is drive E:/, In command prompt, type E: and Hit enter.
Command Prompt will show E:/
4. Then type:
attrib -r -s -h /s /d *.*
Make sure that you put space between each elements in the code. and hit Enter and wait for few seconds.
e.g E:/ attrib(space) -r(space) -s(space) -h(space) /s(space) /d(space) *.*
Then Press Enter
Check your drive now, and you will see your files. Works like a charm.

Windows 9 'Threshold' Rumour Mill

Microsoft has spent the last two years
cleaning up the mess caused by the release of Windows 8, a widely panned
operating system that's endured slow sales and a
general downturn of the PC market. In response, the
company is struggling to replace Windows 8 with a
new operating system which, unsurprisingly, will likely be
named Windows 9. While no concrete information has
been released, leaked rumors provide some indication
of where Microsoft is headed with its next operating
system.
Cross-platform app compatibility
App compatibility among Windows platforms is likely to
be a key feature of Microsoft's new operating system.
The company wants developers to be able to create
a single app and port it between Windows 9, RT,
Windows Phone and the Xbox One with ease.
Microsoft hinted at this during the last BUILD
conference by suggesting that developers will be able
to use tools for Windows apps to create Xbox One
apps, and this could be expanded upon during the
company's April 2014 event.
Rumors indicate that Microsoft will attack cross-
platform compatibility with a three-pronged initiative in
which Windows is tailored to the primary input used
with a device; mouse-first, touch-first, or voice first.
Mouse-first will be the traditional desktop/laptop
experience, touch-first will be for smartphones and
tablets, and voice-first will be for large-screen
devices like televisions and, of course, devices that
connect to a television (like the Xbox One).
This approach would make sense, considering
Microsoft's confusing array of platforms as well as the
lack of apps. With that said, the devil is clearly in
the details. Windows 8 proved that designing an
operating system across multiple platforms is not easy,
and the particulars of the interface and the
development tools will make the difference between
success and failure.
Native gestures
Another way for Microsoft to enable support for
multiple devices would be the introduction of gesture
recognition. This, of course, is within the company's
area of expertise, as Kinect has provided plenty of
experience.
Adding built-in gesture support would make sense
given that Intel is heavily pushing the technology, and
that Microsoft has its own Kinect sensor to sell. The
gesture control technology that we've used so far
has not convinced us that it's useful, however, and
we're not sure what Microsoft could do to change
our minds. The Kinect sensor may have the resolution
and processing power needed to provide a better
experience than other products, but it's also rather
expensive. We don't think anyone would pay $100 to
add gesture support to their PC.
Of course, it's possible that Microsoft will simply add
developer tools for gestures and leave it up to
hardware and software companies to figure out the
details themselves. While this wouldn't give the company
a chance to leverage Kinect, it would pass
responsibility of developing the technology onto others.
That may be necessary given the broad range of
devices that Windows needs to support.
A new Start…menu
Microsoft is likely to continue back-pedaling on its
decision to remove the Start menu on mouse-first
devices. Windows 8.1 brought the Start button back,
but only added a new “Apps View,” which is essentially
a Metro-fied launch screen. Now, with Windows 9,
the company may completely reverse its earlier removal
with a new, re-designed Start menu (which may or
may not debut under that name).
What will it look like, and what will it do? No one but
Microsoft knows. With that said, what little information
has leaked suggests that it will not be a carbon
copy of the old Start menu, or an expansion on the
App View. Instead, it will be a new approach that re-
thinks the Start menu for the realities and capabilities
of modern systems. We think that's likely to mean a
greater reliance on Windows search, integration of
web search, and the potential for significant
customization.
More Metro, everywhere
Don't get your hopes up for Microsoft abandoning the
Metro design. While it hasn't gone over well on the
desktop, it has worked everywhere else, and it's key
to the company's goal of making Windows a cross-
platform operating system.
This means the development of new Metro interface
features. What will they be? That's unknown. We can
guess that they'll focus on the evolution of features
like multi-tasking, desktop search and the Charms bar,
but such changes would hardly be Earth-shattering.
There is one concrete change rumored; the
introduction of Metro apps to the desktop . Currently,
Metro apps cannot run on the desktop, a trait that's
particularly frustrating on desktops with large, high-
resolution displays. Windows 9 could fix that flaw. If
true, it would give desktop owners a reason to check
out the Windows Store, a place most PC enthusiasts
avoid at all costs.
Conclusion
Current rumors indicate that Windows 9 is scheduled
for release in April of 2015 . If that's true, new
information could be revealed at this week's BUILD
festivities – but, with the OS still a year out, the
reveals are likely to be about vague, big-picture ideas
rather than specific features. We'll probably hear
about how Windows 9 will be easy to develop for, how
it'll promote cross-platform apps, and how it'll make
touch better while also improving the desktop for
users who just want a keyboard and mouse.
Whatever Microsoft says, it needs to make an
impression. Windows 8 has flopped, damaging both the
company and the PC market as a whole. Major
changes are needed, and they were needed
yesterday; there's no more time for Microsoft to sit
on its hands.

FAQ
Is framaroot work on my device ?
If your device is in the compatibility list above, the short answer is : yes.
If your device is not in the compatibility list and it embed one of the processor mentionned above, the answer is : try it and see.

Why framaroot doesn't root anymore after I update my device ?
Because framaroot exploit security holes present in several devices which has been patched with update you have done, so exploits can't root your device anymore. Framaroot's exploits have a very short life to keep your device "less exposed" to others malicious application. Keep in mind that framaroot is not a permanent rooting application.

I loose root after update, what I can do to root my device now ?
An advice : if you want to have a chance to keep root after update, don't update with Kies or ODIN for samsung devices or don't flash system partition, prefer OTA update and use OTA survival feature in Superuser or SuperSU.
And if you have no choice, you can use the traditional method : flash tools specific to your device

Will framaroot include more exploits ?
Yes, but don't ask when since I don't know myself, it depend of the vendors fix response.

Framaroot crash when I select Gandalf exploit ?
Often the first time you launch Framaroot by selecting Gandalf as exploit, it crash Framaroot. Don't worry, in this case you have to re-launch Framaroot and select Gandalf again, the second time it should work.

What means error# on result ?
All errors less or equal to 9 mean your device is not vulnerable.
If you get error#10, give a try with Framaroot 1.5.3.
All other errors need some investigation about your kernel image.

Other apps exist for rooting other devices that may not be possible with this app.
How to Install and Use:
      1. Download the APK file and place it on your phone.
      2. Run the APK file, allow unknown sources if asked.
      3. Open Framaroot from App Drawer.
      4. Follow the onscreen instructions!

3 Effective Ways To See What’s Trending On The Web

social media pie chart 300 3 Effective Ways To See Whats Trending On The Web
One thing you’ve got to love about the internet is that it’s always awake and busy. If NYC is considered to be the city that never sleeps, then what are we supposed to call the Internet? Every single day that I sit down in my comfortable little chair and stare at this monitor, there are new and exciting things happening. With these new happenings come a slew of excitement, opportunity, and entertainment.Lucky for you and I (or well, unlucky in some situations), it’s very easy to track things that are trending now on the web. When Web 2.0 came into full bloom,  internet became more social and trendy than ever. If Kim Kardashian gets a new pimple on her chin, you better believe it’ll be on Twitter and available as news to you within a few seconds. That’s just the way  internet works in 2012.
Taking all of that into consideration, let’s scale up. Not only do we want to be able to track these trends, but we want instant access to trends that are hot and buzzing. For that, I’ve got three very simple and popular websites that I enjoy using.

Google Trends

googletrends 3 Effective Ways To See Whats Trending On The Web
Google Trends is the simplest and most obvious solution to see what’s trending now. The search engine is the core of the internet. It is the car to the road. As Google has a direct advertising platform tied into their backend, it should go without saying that they track every nook and cranny when it comes to search analytics. Doing so allows Google Trends to react as one of the most accurate and powerful trend trackers on the web.
Clicking on or searching for a trend will allow you to see an analytical profile for those keywords. It will scale the “hotness,” give you related searches, show a graph of the search activity, and give you some relevant search and blog results for the term.
googletrends2 3 Effective Ways To See Whats Trending On The Web
Google is a search powerhouse and controlling such a powerhouse web property really allows them to point out what’s popular.

What the Trend

whatthetrend 3 Effective Ways To See Whats Trending On The Web
What the Trend uses the internet’s most trendy social network, Twitter, to graph out and explain what is trending right now.
My favorite thing about WtT is that it goes in great depth to not only present trends, but to explain why they are trending and show you a history of the trend. It saves you time. The typical user would pop onto the Twitterverse, look at the day’s trending topics, and query up Google. You can eliminate that last step if you use WtT.
whatthetrend2 3 Effective Ways To See Whats Trending On The Web
Another great feature is the ability to track trends by location. A lot of these websites really neglect spots outside of the US. What the Trend tracks topics for every major country.

BuzzFeed

buzzfeed 3 Effective Ways To See Whats Trending On The Web
I like to refer to BuzzFeed as the TMZ of trendy internet. While it doesn’t monitor “topics” in the same way as our previous two websites do, BF does a great job of sharing viral content that will make you say LOL, OMG, or WTF.
buzzfeed2 3 Effective Ways To See Whats Trending On The Web
BuzzFeed’s Top 20 Most Viral page is also a great way to gauge what has gone on in the past week. BuzzFeed does a great job in categorizing its content so you’re able to narrow trends to specific topics that you’re interested in. BuzzFeed’s iPhone app is definitely worth a look, too.
